THE tallest beach hedge in the world.

I drove past this today and it was looking rather wonderful with the peppering of snow and few shafts of sunlight. Thanks again to blip i stopped the car and got out!
This is in the Guinness book of records as the tallest beach hedge in the world.
It is 1/3rd of a mile long and 30m (100ft) high. It takes 4 men 6 weeks to cut and measure it which they do every 10 years.
There are several stories as to why it should be so tall. The one i was brought up with tells how Robert Murray Nairne planted the hedge in 1745 along his eastern boundary. He went off fight in the Battle of Culloden leaving instructions that the hedge should not be cut till his return. He was killed in battle and the hedge was never cut. Other tales say that his wife left it to grow to heaven as his memorial. What ever the story it is a wonderful living memorial.
