Ma'am
At an event at the police college at Tulliallan.
It was a beautiful drive there and back in wintery sun, Kincardine looking glorious.
It was so interesting to be at this site, which I've heard lots about, and its grounds and the quality of the conversation didn't disappoint.
It's set in woodland used for challenging runs and as I walked round the buildings a group of young recruits was tackling the route.
A freezing day, but sweating and puffing as they were, they each nodded and said 'morning Ma'am' to me as they passed.
Maybe just general respect but, since I had my best coat and firm look on, I liked the idea that they thought I was at least of inspector rank. I quite enjoyed it!
