I met one of our key government partners, Moshin, in the café at his office as we’re preparing for some World Bank sessions, during which we have to be ready with answers on project progress. We signalled for the bill and were presented with an espresso. I thought the universal ‘please bring me the bill’ sign was unmistakeable but we now understand it can be confused with the ‘tipping espresso cup’ sign. Gestures to be made with more clarity in the future.

Today there have been various frantic political exchanges with friends and I’m struggling to hold back my vitriol towards our glorious Prime Minister. Wouldn’t it just be the greatest thing ever if Boris Johnson was unseated at the next general election? It could happen if enough people in his constituency are tired of his clownish ways and lack of substance.

My most recent visa expires today so I’ve travelled to Johannesburg to try and acquire a new one. By the time I got to my lodgings and because Johannesburg is not the type of city to be wandering at night, McDonalds was the only open thing I could see. Who can deny the creamy, tasty, goodness of their milkshakes? I did mistakenly greet the staff in Portuguese though.
