Great spotted woodpecker leaving the ash tree

I saw this woodpecker fly onto the rhus tree close to the house, so I went to grab my camera. When I got back to the dining room I had time to switch the camera on and get it set up. Just as I raised the lens it flew away, but only to the end of the garden where it perched on the top of the main trunk. A few hops around branches followed and I could see it pecking at grubs on the twig sized branches at the top of the ash.

I'd managed to open the sliding doors, which are double glazed, so not very good for filming through. I kept concentrating on for a couple of minutes all primed in case it might take flight again, and it did.

I've had to crop it heavily, but am pleased it is reasonably sharp.
