Sad to see you go!

Today was a gloomy day which started dry and ended wet. The local tree surgeons, Tree Works,  came to take down a beech on the slope below our house this morning. I hate to cut a tree down, but this one had been pollarded - topped - a long time again and the branches had regrown, but each of the stumps from which the new branches were growing was rotten. There was no point in allowing it to continue growing and becoming potentially more dangerous, growing as it was between our house and the road. On top of that, literally, it was growing right over our sewer pipe. 

They did a very neat job, cutting the timber up for firewood and chipping and removing all the smaller branches. My extra shows the final felling!
