Garden Visitor

I've had a pair of Californian quail in and around my garden for the past couple of weeks, maybe a little more. This handsome male quail was sitting by himself, preening and cleaning, so I'm wondering if Mumma Quail is sitting on eggs. Here's hoping!

We've often called quails the Macpherson bird, because that's what their call sounds like - mac-pher-son mac-phers-son mac-pher-son!
