Carpet of leaves
By the time we got home after yesterday's concert - MrM gallantly drove back from Newcastle through rain and patchy fog, avoiding great pools of standing water, and missing the black cow running loose on the main road (yes, we did report it to the police) - it was well in to today. So it was a nice lie in this morning, with brunch at lunch time, then a walk on the Common. It was dreich, to say the least, but good to be out, and we were pleased to spot four red squirrels. Encouraging, as it's thought that greys are advancing on the area.
Hoped to get out in some good weather during October and November for photos of the local autumn foliage, which has been spectacular! But it wasn't to be, and here in Northumberland autumn seems to have been exceptionally gloomy and damp. So it's a last-minute effort, taken from the path on Wooler Common. With the exception of some beech trees and a few oaks, most of the deciduous trees are already bare, their leaves carpeting the ground. Winter is coming!
