Ship's striking

I went to wind a repaired clock and frustratingly a spring failed. Fortunately this was a ratchet spring and not the mainspring.  It did mean having to partially strip down the clock again but at least it provided me with todays blip.  The clock strikes the four hour watches with one blow at 12.30, two at one clock and then progressively an extra blow each half hour until the eight blows strike at four o'clock.  The sequence then starts again.  The mechanical levers that make this happen are quite complicated.
I called in at the church hall after the service where the Christmas fair was under way to warm up with tea and cake .  There were plenty of craft items on sale but I only bought some local Christmas cards,.
