A grey day

What a grey day but it is a little warmer.  A friend gave me these orchids about a year ago and I accepted them with a smile and a little trepidation - I had no experience whatsoever in caring for them.  Now, having cut back the stalks of spent flowers and thrown a little tap water at them occasionally, they are really flourishing again!  Will this continue next year or is it  beginners luck?!  The Aloe Vera plants live in a drought condition on my window sill as they hardly ever get watered.  They are brilliant for minor  kitchen burns and deal with any accompanying pain immediately.
