Back to bird shots I am afraid. This one appealed to me because it shows two species which have been in decline recently. The Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) has been badly affected by Trichomoniasis (a disease caused by a parasitic protozoa). The Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus) had a 93% decline in numbers between 1970 and 2008.
I was hoping for more action as the birds bickered over the perches, but it didn't happen. I was lucky enough to get the shot of this Tree Sparrow as it intimidated the Greenfinch off the perch nearest the bushed. Earlier this year out Tree Sparrow visitors were down to the occasional one, now we get 4 or 5 at a time daily. The decline particularly of the Greenfinch is a timfeeders must be cleaned and disinfected ely reminder that if you feed birds in your garden the feeders must be cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent the spread of disease.
