Unlucky for some

I was following the numbers in this particular street - 1,2, 3, 4 etc rather than odds and evens - when it skipped from 12 to 14 then 14a.

Took me a second to realise that somebody - people in authority or residents? - did not want a number 13.

I have heard of tall buildings with no 13th floor but have never spotted it.
