Mrs. Pott's Sad Iron

I spent the entire dreary day inside. A few hours in my den doing my Sunday School lesson, and then a few more hours in my workshop playing with a new wood project.

In my den is this old iron, invented by Mary Florence Potts. Actually, I think Mrs. Potts invented the wooden handle that fits on the iron, allowing the user to pick it up without getting burned. (The previous handle was made of iron.)

Why is it sad? It comes from an Old English word for heavy, dense, or solid. They weigh between 5-9 pounds.

I bought mine for a dollar, and on the internet they are for sale between 10 and 55 dollars. WOO-HOO!
