Charlotte
As I mentioned yesterday I ventured a little way out of my comfort zone by attending a studio flash portrait workshop with a local profesional photographer. This is something I have not done for many years so was a little nervous as to how it would go.
I needn't have worried as it was a most enjoyable and fun experience as with only five photographers in the group there was plenty of time for individual tuition. The morning was spent with Gary showing different lighting set ups stressing the need to build the lighting up slowly and most importantly to keeping it simple by using the minimum amount of lights for the desired effect.
After lunch we were introduced to our delightful model Charlotte and with Gary's help we individually set up the lighting and backgrounds and fixed the exposure using an incident light flash meter.
We were told that far more important than the lighting and technical aspects, building a good rapport with the model was critical in achieving good natural results. Thanks to Charlotte's bubbly and confident personality this was not too difficult and with plenty of time available I came away with a couple of hundred shots to choose from.
I have not had time to sort out and process the best images but just chose this one to blip.
It was a most enjoyable day and although I don't think I will be buying a load of studio equipment in the near future as I much prefer natural light, it was a pleasant challenge to attempt a totally different style of photography.
