Tomorrow's outing
We drove down to a little village near Ipswich today, to drop off my flute for servicing. We were then going to have a walk - perhaps around Minsmere, but the weather had other ideas.
It's going to take a couple of weeks for the flute servicing. Meanwhile, I'm feeling somewhat bereft. Having only a couple of weeks ago lashed out on an alto flute, I've subsequently been seriously considering an upgrade on my standard flute. I popped in to the local woodwind shop yesterday - but they had very little to show me. So, with W's encouragement, I decided on a trip to London tomorrow.
I need to be sensible - I'm not sure that my standard justifies spending too much money. Getting a better flute will not make me a better flute player - only time and practice can do that, and I'm never going to be a concert flautist!
However, having decided that we were going to London, I looked for something else to do to justify the train journey, and found a concert in the early evening at Wigmore Hall that sounds good - the Nash Ensemble playing various pieces of classical woodwind music. So we've booked trains, finding that there are no direct trains from Norwich to London, presumably there is some engineering work being done, so we are having to travel via Ely. And in the process, I also discovered that I could buy separate open day returns from Norwich to Ely, and then from Ely to King's Cross for markedly less money than any type of tickets from Norwich to London tomorrow.
