Lake Te Anau - South Fiord

No driving today, we took a trip out onto Lake Te Anau and into the South Fiord.  Lake Te Anau holds the greatest volume of fresh water in Australasia, 65km from South to North and 417m at it's deepest which means much of the lake bed is below sea level, even though the surface is 200m above it.   Toward the end of the South Fiord this small landing stage gives access to a track up to one of 13 'hidden lakes' (in the Flikr folder).  All in all - a good day out on the water with one of the locals who runs a relatively low key operation, but having grown up in the area provides a variety of local knowledge which makes the trip very interesting.
