Behind the Wall

On our last morning in Berlin, we visited the site of the bombed Nazi headquarters, now converted into a museum - the Topographie Des Terrors - documenting the rise of Nazism and the progress of the second world war.  A fitting reminder of that part of German history and a reminder that we must not allow this to happen again.

On the edge of the site, along the south side of Niederkirchnerstraß, is a preserved section of the outer Berlin wall, seen in this blip, with the  Finance Ministry building behind. This building, the construction of which began in 1935, originally housed the Ministry of Aviation.  During the German Democratic Republic it was "House of Ministries" and like some other buildings in Berlin formed part of the inner wall.

A fine, enjoyable and educational few days in Berlin.  Back home this evening.
