Veterans' Day Celebration
The Fire Department pitched in to hang this enormous flag outside Vets Hall. There were a few booths promoting veterans' services, a barbeque, a couple bands, and a sobering community walk to raise awareness of the high veteran suicide rate. The program included a talk by a friend who was the Air Force's medical expert on POWs in the early 70s; it's funny how you can play ukulele next to someone for years and never guess at their previous life. D was actively involved in bringing American prisoners home from Vietnam and has many stories to tell about a remarkable group of soldiers.
