The Les Les Show

To Edinburgh Cineworld/Iceland with EdiSteve for a showing of Les Miserables. I love the stage original and this screen adaptation is superb. The live singing works well, with everyone working to put convincing emotion into their performances. Former Nancy wannabe Samantha Barks steals the show as Eponine, putting a year's experience in the role to heartbreaking use (I've never been able to understand why posh boy Marius would prefer the wan Cosette to the gutsy Eponine).

The orchestrations, production design, directing ... it all makes for a wonderful musical.
