Viper's Bugloss weevil

A much sunnier day today, perfect weather for surveying. We easily got all our work done in the allotted time and I even had a little spare time to take some non-work photographs. The viper's bugloss has had a bumper year, and so has its associated weevil, Mogulones geographicus. This is a somewhat local species of south and eastern England, but can nearly always be found where there are large stands of its host plant. Its specific name 'geographicus' refers to the tracery of white lines on its elytra, which look somewhat like the boundaries of a map.
