Anyone for skating?

It's now two weeks since the temperature was last above freezing. It hasn't been particularly cold, just slightly below 0° but the effects are cumulative.
Today I walked down our hill to the big lake to see how the ice looked. It looked solid, and at the edge where I stood it was at least 10 cm thick, but I didn't have my ice picks with me so I didn't venture any further out.
I'm sure the long-distance skaters will be out this weekend. 
In a short while we are off to our friend Ruth's 50th birthday dinner so the blip is a little earlier than usual.
