Fusion

There has been a lot of redevelopment going on around St. Pauls in recent years. Cheapside has been radically transformed by modernist Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Jean Nouvel. One New Change, as it is called, has 6,500 floor-to-ceiling glass panes in varying shades of red, grey and beige, flooding the floors with natural light. 4,300 of them are unique pieces. It is, of course, a shopping centre and bristles with city folk spending our their money.
Despite this modernity, the graceful, iconic dome of Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece St. Paul's Cathedral still dominates the area, towering above all the newbuilds around it. For more than 1,400 years a cathedral has stood here, and the current one has stood here, at the highest point of the city for 400 years. It was built between 1675 and 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London.
I set out to capture both the old and the new in my blip today, and I found the ideal spot in One New Change with more lead-in lines than you could shake a long, straight stick at. Finding a relatively pedestrian-free moment for a long exposure required a little patience and a bit of luck, but I got my shot eventually.
