The new MOMA

It feels totally unfamiliar. Old favorites like Picasso's “Girl before a mirror” and Giacometti’s “Palace at 4 a.m.,” formerly set apart in completely different spaces, are now cheek-by-jowl roommates (main picture). Even the Matisse room, though still filled with lovely Matisses, lacks the quiet, calm effect it used to have (extra #1). The new construction has opened up some nice views, both exterior and interior (extras 2 and 3). But the overall impression is crowdedness: crowds of art, crowds of people. I think I preferred the old MOMA.

But then, change has never been my forte.
