Glasgow Central Station 0615....

Glasgow Central Station.....platform 15....on a cold, quiet, crisp autumnal morning.... Glasgow Central holds such special memories of trips down to the Clyde coast to meet the ferries and steamers at Gourock, Wemyss Bay, Largs and Ardrossan since I was a young boy.... And the trains, old diesel trains back in the late 1960s and early 1970s,  usually departed from platforms 11 onwards.....  There would be chaos as my mum, dad, brother and I got on one of those trains with luggage, toys, food  and drink bound for Largs and summer holidays on Millport  ... but we usually all got on without incident apart from one memorable occasion back in the early 1970s. I had a large Quality Street sweet tin containing toy soldiers which I planned to play with on the beach at Millport.... The tin got on the train okay but just as the train was about to depart the carriage door was opened by someone running to catch the train and the tin rolled out of the carriage door, bounced on the platform edge and landed on the tracks below ! The tin and the soldiers couldn't be rescued as the train quickly set off with two screaming weans and two exasperated parents...... Brought a wee smile to my face waiting on that platform this morning......
