Keeping Watch

There is a tale that the ghost of a woman wearing a long winter cloak haunts these woods near to Felbrigg Hall.  Accounts of these sightings suggest that she is the spirit of a local woman who was knocked down and killed by a carriage passing along this road in the 17th Century.
Ha ha...yes, I made all that up but this tree stump at the side of the road does look rather eerie!
This wonderful little spot is a byway just yards from the busy A148 between Sheringham and Cromer and the woods adjoining it are owned by the National Trust and intriguingly called 'The Lion's Mouth'.  (The name, 'Lion's Mouth' is thought to have been inspired by the Autumnal colour of the leaves of the beautiful beech trees).
I was on my way to Waitrose and thought I would stop off with my camera at this lovely wood en-route.  I was blessed with a great view of a fox who crossed the road in front of me. That's the first fox I've seen since moving here four years ago, which is surprising for such a rural area, I do wonder if the farmers 'remove' them from their land.
The extras are of a sweet chestnut cosily cocooned in its silky (and spiky) case and a stinkhorn which is obviously living up to its name if the number of flies on it are anything to go by!
