The size of the crashing waves near North Berwick (extra) must have been well over two metres and the spray was rising high up over the rocks. Although it was still cloudy nearby the sun was lighting up the distant waves. Further west along the coast it was much calmer and by the time we had walked along passed Gullane Bay to Aberlady the sea was relatively calm. After four wet days it was good to find sunshine but on seeing huge lakes in fields from the top of the bus we wondered how long they would take to dry out and how much of the newly planted crops would survive.
