Lunch As it Should Be

Sparkling sunshine-after-rain morning, so Mike went looking for asparagus, and came back with a good bunch, that I fried up in olive oil for lunch, with the end of a local black pig chorizo, garlic (of course), a few tomatoes from the garden (rapidly rotting now), a handful of fresh young nettles, and four deep yellow-yolked eggs from the market. With sourdough bread (called "mother dough" here) that was on sale in Reguengos, and juice from our rapidly ripening oranges (seen in background). Delicious, healthy, and almost free.

As an aside, saw João (our main asparagus thief) in town yesterday, holding the hand of his gorgeous little daughter, and thought, if our asparagus helps feed her, he's welcome to it. As long as we get some as well!

(Just remembered, it's Guy Fawkes in the UK; obviously, we won't be burning any Catholics here!)

Gratefuls:
- the team enjoying their first Portuguese lessons in Reguengos, and seemingly fairly resigned to an extended stay here till their visas arrive
- enough sunshine for Mike to finish the second column (the noise of the demolition drill was distressing, so glad it's over)
- fun exchanges with Julia and Beth in Manchester, out looking for a wedding dress, a deposit has been paid!!
