Sian Ka’an.
Today we headed off for the UNESCO World heritage site and natural biosphere of Sian Ka’an near the town of Tulum.
We were in a small party of 13 which was great. Our guide, a young Italian, was with us all day and was very good. We met our boat and sped off a the massive expanses of the lagoon in search of all kinds of wildlife. After about 50 mins of a very exhilarating boat ride, fortunately under overcast skies, we slowed down as we navigated the Mangroves canals in search of birds etc. We were treated to a nesting pair of Osprey, Cormorants, Frigate birds, kites, Ibis, plus later on a turtle and dolphins too! We also had a snorkel close to the reef and a glorious swim in the shallows of the Caribbean’s turquoise sea!
Then a delicious lunch at a fishing village before heading back across the lagoon at high speed. Much to Mr Tbay delight we even found a wild Crocodile fast asleep too!
So off we headed to our room once back at base and put the key in the lock, and yes you guessed it , the darn this would not let us in. Aghhhhh.
So off the the reception Mr Tbay went and the senior concierge arrives followed very shortly by an out of breath security guard! I’m pretty sure he had run most of the way! Much fiddling ensued. Lots of heads scatching between the first security man and another who had also appeared for support! Batteries were changed, but still it would not work. So eventually a new one was installed! And now we really can get in and out of our room! Hoorah!
Once this was done we headed out for a very nice supper at the Seaside Restaurant, which is not really very near the beach at all!
