Blues and Greys

Thought we'd have breakfast in Spain today, but nowhere in Villanueva was serving food (was inbetween breakfast and lunch, apparently), so drove to the next (very tiny) village, Valencia del Mombuey, pop 839. Walked into a dark restaurant, two men at the bar, eventually the owner appeared. "Please, we're hungry", I said, "you are our last hope!"

He came up with wild asparagus (picked by himself) croquettes with bread, absolutely delicious. After we'd paid, he said, "Wait two minutes", which we wonderingly did, and he handed us a plate of hot salted acorns, his own invention, they tasted a bit like chestnuts, really good, gracias, Sr Rafa, we'll be back for a proper meal one day!

Rest of the day skimming stones in the river, walking round Noudar castle, and walking down to the river there as well. Sadly, it's all looking terribly dry, not good.

Mike's just come back with the team for hot chocolate after two hours in the (extremely loud) Roma church.

Gratefuls:
- picnic looking out over the valley, stupendous views, birds of prey circling
- the sound of silence (when Mike wasn't chomping candied almonds)
- seeing four deer, two crossing the road right in front of us, such graceful creatures
