Jane
After a wee bit of a lie in and a hearty breakfast Mr T took me for a ramble round the heart of Basingstoke. It was nice to bump into Jane Austen in the Market Square. The bronze statue of her was unveiled in 2017 on the 200th anniversary of her death. Miss Austen spent the first 25 years of her life in nearby Steventon where her father was vicar. She knew Basingstoke well and attended social gatherings at the Assembly Rooms in Market Square and regularly visited family and friends around and about.
Mr T lived in Basingstoke from the age of 11 to 19, went to the grammar School there but saw so much change today that his memories were somewhat clouded.
We're back home now after another good journey. Off to cook dinner and then looking forward to a quieter evening catching up with Strictly, and an early night.
