This one, looking eastward, is taken from the seventh-floor terrace of the New Museum, located on the Bowery. Extra #1 is taken from the same terrace, but this time looking toward the southwest. And Extra #2 looks northward at the New Museum and its terrace (those little people you see are standing where I was an hour earlier) from a bar a couple of buildings away on the Bowery.
By the way—for those of you in or near or likely to get to New York—the entire New Museum is currently taken up with an excellent Hans Haacke show. His very thoughtful work does not reproduce well: you have to be there to absorb its rational and systematic processes. In Berlin, he is represented by the attractively wild garden “For the Population” inside the Reichstag — a purposeful response to the entire building’s dedication, “To the German Folk.”
