Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch in town

Well, I was wrong - England didn’t manage to play like they did against the ABs, or at least, they weren’t allowed to. Not such an exciting match - too many penalties (don’t they know the rules?) - but great for SA to win. Sport really does work wonders. I was in NZ when the Springboks came to play in the 80s, but were greeted with protests and even had to abandon a match. They were an all-white team then - look at them now, with an inspirational black captain. In rugby, the black and coloured team members are treated equally as heroes. Such a difference with their treatment in football, where racism is rampant. Why is this so? Also, I did think it was rather impolite, nay, unsporting, for some of the England team to choose not to wear their silver medal.

Elizabeth took Archie to visit her Auntie Helen (Extra). She's 94 and does her own garden and isn’t on any medication! They've been there before, but it's a bit of a long bus ride on a usually rather busy bus, so I hope he didn’t do any of his ‘I want off'!' yips. (Behaviour Report: he didn’t yip)

We went to Baba's again (we went last week), and it was as yummy as ever, though this time we were right under a speaker, so JR had to put up with my fairly regular whingeing...

Went into a new cafe, with millions of flowers all over the walls, but decided not to stop when we saw the huge coffee cups - not a good sign. Popped into Pret for a proper flat white (and a pastry).

It has been raining on and off all day, but we managed to not get wet. While waiting for the bus, I liked all the yellows and the reflections.
