BACKBLIP: Leaving Nanchang
BACKBLIP: I was unable to blip while I was away in China for over two weeks (blipfoto is not accessible there). I'm attempting to catch up!
Today, we left Nanchang in Jiangxi Province to return to Beijing. I took this photo as we crossed the main road bridge between the two halves of the city divided by the Gan River. I wanted to show this as an example of the rate of development in China. Our guide told us that the half of the city on this side of the river was all fields only 15 years ago. This whole urban area has been built since then. Remarkable and a bit scary. Incidentally, there are statues of a black cat and a white cat at the end of the bridge, commemorating a speech made in Nanchang by former Chinese premier Deng Xiao Ping. In commenting on economic reform and the various approaches, he said it doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, so long as it catches the rat!
