Flying high!
A truly glorious day after all that rain but mighty blowy on the Northumberland coast especially up on the ramparts of Bamburgh Castle. Perfect though for kite flying.
After a quick trip into Morpeth to buy a charging cable we headed north and to the coast. We have visited Bamburgh several times in the past and even brought our caravan here when the children were small but we’ve never been inside the castle so today was the day.
After about a two hour visit including coffee we headed down to walk along the beach. Less windy there though the waves were wild but the tide was really high. A ‘spring’ tide we believe one reason why we ruled out crossing to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) today. Great views of the Farne Islands but as we were having to walk on the very soft sand at the top of the beach, which was also decreasing all the time we gave up and crossed the dunes back to the car and drove on to Seahouses. You can get boat trips from here out to the Farnes which is something I would like to do one day but when the birds are nesting and it’s less windy!
We had a cuppa and shared a crab sandwich before heading back to visit Ron and Ian at home.
Such a beautiful coast and county but there are so many ‘little’ roads it’s so easy to get lost, even the sat nav seems confused!
We’ve made it back to our hotel now in the dark as British Summertime ended in the early hours of this morning.
Better definition in large.
