The 17.18 to Clacton had, i think, 15 carriages. They were almost empty at Liverpool St, standing room only at Stratford (West Ham supporters, looking resigned), comfortable from Shenfield, almost empty again from Chelmsford.

Such numbers - carriages, people - come as a bit of culture shock to this small-city Scot.
