Painted frescoes

Backblip
Telephoned the chap who owned the site we stayed on last night to say we were leaving and asking what to do about the payment, but no reply so sent him a text instead.  Still no reply.  If we are back this way, we shall call in.

Off to Pickering today, home of the castle, the painted church and the narrow gauge steam trains!  Hooray!  Another chance to explore the castle and it was perfect weather for it - so clear for miles around.  The staff at the castle were a cheery pair, great banter and tasters of as many wines and gins as we fancied!  A shame poor Mike was driving!

Next to the station to see the engines.  Mike had a look around the workshop and Lottie and I checked out the second hand books, but they were all to do with railways and trains!  Chilly when you weren't in the sun, particularly when having coffee on the station platform!

We had really been impressed with the painted frescoes in St Peter and St Paul's church last time we were down, so called in there again.  The paintings were to illustrate the bible and lives of the saints to those who couldn't read.  Some very graphic descriptions of various martyrdoms too.  Not easy to photograph because of the light.  Felt I had to take a photo of the Dogs Welcome sign in the porch too - but not worth wasting an extra on!

Stayed overnight near Ripon.  A wonderful site with all the bells and whistles you could want, even underfloor heating in the shower block!  Every so often we need a bit of luxury!
