Blip Meet
The second day of our visit to Newcastle. In the morning we first visited the Baltic Gallery. Regrettably neither of us were terribly taken with the exhibits. We then headed over to the Laing Gallery in the centre of Newcastle. This was more interesting and focussed on work by people from the North East over the last few centuries.
I have a Blip contact who lives near Gateshead. As I was in Newcastle I thought it would be nice for us meet up. Luckily DollyDoug was free, and so we arranged to meet at the cafe in the Laing Gallery. We met at midday and went our separate ways in the latter part of the afternoon. It was nice to meet a fellow Blipper and we had a very nice afternoon. The photograph shows us next to one of the elephants which can be seen all round Newcastle at the moment. We are shown outside the Laing Gallery, though actually the picture of us was taken in the cafeteria!
In the evening we had a very nice meal on the top floor of the Baltic Gallery. We have had three dinners here in Newcastle, and all of them were excellent. The Baltic Gallery has a very nice dining area, and being on the top floor has fantastic views all around.
The reason we are in Newcastle is we were given tickets to see the Midge Ure 2019 tour when it visited the Sage Theatre. The theatre itself is a very modern and striking building. Unfortunately in Aberdeen modern buildings are singularly uninspiring, and there is nothing comparable to match the Sage for style. The extra was taken on my phone as we arrived at the Sage.
Midge Ure was on top form and with his band played some of the hits from the 80s ("Vienna", "Fade to Grey" for example) as well as newer works. He made the comment that most people were probably there to hear two of his songs, I think he was most likely referring to the two I have mentioned.
Another very pleasant day, and another day with high step count, though not quite as much as yesterday.
