Lake Bled, Slovenia

True to form we almost missed our bus. The interweb informed us that they run every hour on the half hour from the train station to Lake Bled. Yet, having failed to get up on schedule through a sort of mutual agreement of non-movement after each snooze and after a couple of wrong turns along the way we ended up bombing it for a bus that did not even exist.

Eventually we got to Lake Bled on our empty stomachs and decided to walk round the lake before finding a place for lunch. It was tranquil but misty and everything was set in a blue haze which made photography that bit more difficult.

Walking back towards Bled we were disappointed to find nothing, really. In a surge of touristic interest it seems obvious that the Slovenian government thought that the key to monopolising the increased number of visitors was to build a ghastly, contrived, concrete town. A facade for the lack of substance it had. They'd have been better off leaving it as it was - natural.

The bus journey was nice though with the snow-topped Julian Alps growing ever nearer.

More recently we have just been informed that due to a mishap with bookings we can no longer stay in this hostel for the full duration of our visit. So we'll be schlepping our backpacks across town again come 11 am tomorrow. Boo!
