Scarlet elf cup

Managed a short visit to Dancersend nature reserve in very dull conditions today. I was checking and repairing fences, so nothing very photogenic until I came to one of the darkest and most dismal corners where visits at this time of year are often brightened by the sight of these little cup fungi bursting out of rotting ash or willow branches. It's the Scarlet elf cup Sarcoscypha austriaca and is showing in good numbers this year with the mild, dank conditions - soon to change!
