Road trip photos
I really had to cheat today and make a collage of the sights from yesterday's road trip as there was so much to see and today is a busy day of errands and packing for Colorado bound driving on Saturday!
I hope the blip police don't come get me!
We visited two bridges, Campbells covered bridge and Poinsett Bridge. Campbells is the only covered bridge in South Carolina; Poinsett is an old rock bridge that was part of the road from Charleston to Asheville way, way back in our history. Then we stopped at Wildcat Wayside, a sweet little waterfall, then on the Table Rock State Park with its beautiful lake with the Table Rock Mountain in the distance. One can hike up to the top if they had lots of time and a completely mended ankle. Future adventure maybe!
Then it was on to Sassafras Mountain, the higher point in South Carolina and which laps over into North Carolina. The new observation deck is really nice (and yeah, they also put a restroom up here which was very much needed as this is the middle of nowhere! and on the path of the Foothills Trail that spans the length of the mountains in our state. Too much info!) We could see Lake Jocassee in the distance (20 miles per the GPS!) so we drove over there for a photo opportunity as my travel friends had never been there.
The ladies had not been but to one of these locations so it was good fun showing them part of the state they had never seen. And they were very glad that I did not make them walk up and down high mountain trails. We were a little disappointed that the trees with color were very scarce.
A good day for photography though and we already have another place in mind for our next adventure in November. For now, I have to get busy with the errands!
