The long wait is over.
Finally!!
I first started reading the Wheel of Time series in 1994. At first it was easy, the early books had been published for some time - finish one, buy the next. Eventually I caught up and it became an eagerly anticipated event around Christmas time, new book published, series moves on. The series had originally been planned for 6 volumes but had by now expanded to 12. Then in 2007 disaster struck, the author Robert Jordan died whilst writing the last book. Fans round the world were left hanging. In my case a story that had occupied 13 years of my life seemed to have ended before reaching a conclusion.
Luckily the author had prepared extensive notes so another author would be capable of completing the book according to his wishes. Fellow fantasy author and long-time Wheel of Time fan Brandon Sanderson was brought in to complete the final book, but during the writing process it was decided that the book would be far too large to be published in one volume, and would instead be published as three volumes: The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight and the final instalment A Memory of Light.
Fans could at last see an end in sight,
Gathering Storm was duly published in 2009. Towers of Midnight arrived in 2010, just one volume to go. 2011 came and went, no final book, 'it will be here in 2012' was the promise. It wasnt. But at last the wait is over. 18 years after I started reading volume one I have a copy of the final volume in my hand.
