Croft Castle
Another lovely day and without the cold wind. We've been to Croft Castle, a NT property at Yarpole near Leominster and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, it's an interesting house, the home of the Croft family who repurchased their ancestral home in 1923. The property has a castellated frontage and houses fantastic artefacts, furniture from the 17th to 19th centuries and has very impressive plasterwork throughout. We had a lovely walk round the walled garden full of Autumn colour and a small vineyard with bunches of grapes ready for the picking. Lots of birdlife around, Mr Robin followed us singing loudly all the way and I was thrilled to get a shot of a Nuthatch on the bird feeders.
'They're still at it' in Extra: the potato harvesters were back first thing this morning. We had a talk with the very nice Farmer who told us that after a very wet October every fine day counts to get their harvest in by day and night. Their customers are McCains and McDonalds. He went on to say the harvest they gather goes to be made into chips and fries which will last the chip & fry eaters in the whole of the country only half an hour - gobsmacking! I was pleased to learn that McDonalds buy British.
