Bailie

Had to take our Bailie to the vet this afternoon and found out that his increasing arthritis is related to an old injury which occurred before we got him. The x-ray showed an untreated hip fracture that healed on it's own!
We suspect he may have been hit by a car or thrown out of a car.
For those who don't know how we came by our two wonderful dogs: they were found wandering in a friend's woods and, after three weeks, were finally coaxed into the garage; we then took them home. That was in April of 2005. This injury had to have occurred much before then as he showed no signs of a broken hip when we had them checked by a vet when we first got them. He is sleeping off the anesthesia now, and has pain killers to get him through the days ahead. He and Barklie are now 10-13 years old (the vet who first examined them figured they were between 2-5 years old at that time).

He is afraid to lay down and won't take the pain pill. In fact, he hasn't eaten or taken a drink since he came home. Hopefully, tomorrow the effect of the anesthesia will be completely gone and he will feel more like eating something.
