The poisonous red and white Fly Agaric is the traditional toadstool often found in fairy tales.  Here these appear to be different stages of the toadstool but unfortunately there were none with their dark red spherical caps covered with small white flecks unblemished by slugs or other creatures. As the fungus grows the warty spots become less prominent and in rain might disappear with the toadstool becoming flatter and plate-like with the red colour fading. It was formerly used as an insecticide with pieces usually sprinkled in milk to intoxicate and kill flies attracted by its aroma.
