Games Night
Friends came round for some food and boardgames this evening. L made some fabulous mac n cheese with roast potatoes and grilled mackerel and then we played Fair Means or Foul (in which M just pipped P to the win) before dessert and Puerto Rico afterwards. Both good games and it's been a while since I've played either. I had forgotten how good they both are, especially Puerto Rico. Minimal downtime before the next decision, lots of options and several different winning strategies. Whether I was lucky or had just remembered more of the rules than the others who had played before I come out on top in the end. M and P are up in Edinburgh for the weekend and M's brother D is one of our ongoing Britannia-game-series quartet. Not seen M and P for a while but we go back a long way. M and I were part of the same IT graduate intake at S&N in September 1985, started going out shortly after and lived together for several years in Forrest Road in the late 1980s/early 1990s. When I first met M's brother D he must have been at uni in St Andrews or maybe just about to go. Strange then to be talking about M and P's kids who are now just finished, just starting and still considering uni respectively. M and I split up in the mid 1990s but remained on good terms. We went to each other's weddings within two weeks of each other in September 1996. As M and P live on the English south coast we don't see each other very often so it was good to catch up.
