Slip sliding away

Camden Crescent stands on the edge of Margaret's Hill, a steep slope that leads down to the valley of the River Avon. You get great views across the City of Bath from here.
Designed in 1788 by John Eveleigh, Camden Crescent was once much longer. A landslide in 1889 resulted in the collapse of nine houses at the eastern end of the crescent which were never replaced. As a result, the Grade I listed crescent is now asymetical. The central pillars are no longer sited in the middle of the crescent. The missing section a silent witness to an ancient disaster.
