St Michael's Church Linlithgow
An early start today as I got used to being on my own again, I wake at the slightest noise. I started the day by greeting the lovely Catriona and wishing her a Happy 21st Birthday. She was still in her pjs and dining on a breakfast of pancakes in the shape of letters. How frequently our grown up children look back to their childhood for comfort on such occasions.
Mum and I had a wander round Linlithgow today. The sun was glorious despite the windchill. I managed to persuade her that a very slow walk up the ramp to Linlithgow Palace would be worth the effort. Neither of us had ever been inside St Michael's Church. It is beautiful. I hadn't actually realised that it houses the magnificent cross on it's tower which is visible from so many approach roads. I always thought it was part of the Palace who's grounds the church sits in.
There is an incredible 20th centuary stained glass window, it's reflection flooded the pulpit and bounced off of the pillars on each side. Such is the quality of the glass work.
I was quite surprised at how taken I was with the church. We did say at the Ne'er day pie that this was the year of saying 'yes, let's try that' and so I was really pleased that mum said 'yes' to walking up the hill with not a puffer in sight, and that I sid 'yes' to going inside.
It's good to say 'yes' to things that take you out of your comfort zone, although perhaps I will make sure there is a little puffer in my bag at all times.
