Art Date
Because I needed a quick routine blood test at our clinic, H and I took advantage of the parking there which is also close by the Frye Art Museum,to go check out the exhibits and have lunch in their cafe. An art date! Four thought provoking and interesting exhibits ..about Diane Arbus and how she shaped culture with so many magazine photos, 2 artists ( Diane Simpson, Ellen Lesperance who work in complicated “dress codes” with painted and sculptural grids of historical garments (I can’t begin to explain it here but one could knit a garment from the way the paintings are executed like a pattern) plus the Frye’s own substantial collection of woman in art and the perceptions of them in different eras, and , maybe the best of all, Donald Byrd’s dances , certainly all about social injustice and diversity in this country and how bodies can speak to it…in “the America that is to be”
It was way too much to take in. My mind is whirling. Here’s the link to the exhibitions if you are interested in any of them. I always enjoy going here —and it’s free.
The blip is taken from the entrance across the street where there used to be a nice parking lot but now is a HUGE construction… and extra, from inside the cafe looking at the same construction. Sun came out after a rainy morning!
