Today's the day ............................... to release a single

It was announced on the Today programme on Radio 4 yesterday morning that David Bowie had released his first single for a decade.

The fact that this happened at all on what is normally a rather staid affair is a measure of its likely impact on those who heard it. Within hours almost half a million people had watched the video of Where are we now? and by 3 pm enough had bought the song on iTunes to propel it to No 1 in its British chart.

I noticed this large image of him today - sprayed on a Kendal nightclub wall along with other greats of the pop world. I've walked past it a million times and never really seen that it was him.

Today though, he's big news ...............................
