The ubiquitous "TERRE A L'AMENDE" no trespassing sign.

It means, literally "penalty land". An owner of land may apply to the Royal Court for permission, in effect, to declare his land penalty land. It gives him or her the right to issue what amounts to parking tickets for the sum of £50, enforceable by way of a petty debt court summons.
