Stereolab - One Note Samba / Surfboard (recorded December 1995, Blackwing Studios, London, for Red Hot Organisation)
Stereolab teemed up with the jazz flautist Herbie Mann for this track for the Red Hot + Rio charity album, but this full length version came from the compilation Aluminum Tunes a couple of years later, and now included on the box set Switched On (Vols. 1-3), from which I heard this today. Surfboard is an original but One Note Samba is a Carlos Antonia Jobim composition with an English lyric written by Jon Hendricks. Astrud Gilberto did a version with Stan Getz in 1964.
